Mahashivratri 2026 falls on Wednesday, 18 February. The temple stays open continuously for ~44 hours from morning of 17th to afternoon of 19th. Shahi Sawari (royal procession) on 19th evening.
Special rituals
Maha Rudrabhishek at 3 AM, special haldi-chandan shringar in afternoon, Sehra darshan late evening — Mahakal is adorned like a groom with a 7-foot floral crown.
Shahi Sawari route
Mahakal palki leaves temple → Gopal Mandir → Tower Chowk → Patni Bazaar → Goverdhan Sagar → returns by midnight. The crowd along the route is electric.
VIP darshan logistics
Regular queue can be 8–12 hours. Pre-book Shighra darshan 15+ days in advance, or use a verified protocol service. Stay within 1 km of temple to avoid traffic lockdowns.
