Ujjain Food Guide: 12 Must-Try Dishes & Where to Find Them
Ujjain food is pure-veg, satvik, and absolutely delicious. From morning poha-jalebi to evening malpua, here is the food crawl plan.

Breakfast: Poha Jalebi
The Malwa breakfast. Try Sarafa Chowk's stalls (open from 6:30 AM) or Joshi Dahi Bada House. A plate costs ₹40 and fuels you till lunch.
Lunch: Dal Bafla
The Malwa cousin of dal-baati. Wheat balls cooked in cow ghee with panchmel dal. Best at Chappan Bhog (Freeganj) and Govind Restaurant near temple.
Snacks: Sabudana Khichdi & Kachori
On fasting days, Sabudana Khichdi at Bhakti Bhojan is legendary. Hot kachoris at New Sarafa Bazaar every evening from 5 PM.
Sweets: Malpua, Imarti, Shrikhand
Madhuram Sweets and Agrawal Sweets for malpua. Take home Mawa Bati and the famous Ujjaini ghee laddoo.
Non-veg note
Avoid completely within 5 km of the temple zone. The entire old city is strictly satvik.
